Cybersecurity and Preventing Denial of Service Attacks

London Business Hub is providing advice and information to help businesses and the self-employed work safely during COVID-19. This week, we provide advice and tips on preventing Denial of Service attacks.

Denial of Service attacks

Denial of Service (DoS) attacks are designed to make a service or website inaccessible. DoS attacks overwhelm a system with large volumes of requests until it becomes overloaded and crashes. The Police Digital Security Centre has published practical guidance about the steps you can take to reduce the risk and impact of a DoS attack. You can also download a copy of the guide here.

Phishing emails

Phishing emails try to trick you or your employees into ‘doing the wrong thing’, such as clicking a dodgy link and downloading malware. Phishing scams are the most common type of cyberattack towards businesses, and it’s important to stay up to date with the common techniques cybercriminals use. The Metropolitan Police Service has published a short video on spotting and preventing phishing emails.
