Thank you for reading our Guide for Opening, Running and Growing a Cultural or Community Space. The guide has been developed by Counterculture in partnership with the Mayor of London’s Space for Culture team and the London Business Hub.
The Mayor of London’s Space for Culture team is the root network behind London’s cultural life, nourishing, supporting and stabilising the ecosystems upon which culture and community depend. The team plays a vital role in protecting cultural spaces and preserving London’s identity as a rich and multifaceted ecosystem.
Counterculture provides strategic, business and legal advice to help cultural, educational and creative organisations plan, manage and thrive.
The London Business Hub is the Mayor’s one-stop shop for businesses packed full of impartial, free advice to help with any issues that you might be facing. The portal also provides access to free business support programmes, webinars and events.

- The Mayor of London’s Culture and Community Spaces at Risk programme has compiled a list of resources for London’s cultural, creative and community organisations to protect and support at-risk spaces. This includes advice, guidance and current funding opportunities. The Culture and Community Spaces at Risk programme aims to protect at-risk spaces valued by local communities. The team does this by facilitating a whole range of actors – City Hall policy and delivery teams, local authorities, funders, developers, businesses, cultural operators, and voluntary and community groups to work together to help save and sustain hundreds of spaces each year.
